A Family That Battles Together Stays Together! (Japanese: タケシ!ニビジムをすくえ! Takeshi! Save Nibi Gym!) is the commencement Weekly Pokémon Broadcasting Station side story episode and the fifth episode of Pokémon Chronicles. Information technology beginning aired in Japan on December 3, 2002, in the United Kingdom on June 8, 2005, and in the Us on June 24, 2006.

Blurb

Brock is dorsum in Pewter City later on his adventures in Johto, only he finds his male parent Flint hiding at the edge of boondocks. Flint warns him that something terrible has happened: Brock's female parent Lola took over the Pewter Gym and turned information technology into a gaudy Water-type Gym! When Brock sees this, he's furious, but Flintstone is afraid to act and Lola won't heed. And then Brock declares that Flint will battle Lola for the Gym—if Lola loses, the Gym goes back to the manner information technology was. Just if she wins, all of Brock's siblings will become Water-type Trainers!

With the Gym now a watery battlefield, Flintstone's Golem is at a disadvantage. Once Lola'southward Marill uses Surf, Golem sinks like a rock, and Lola'south Blastoise has to fish it out of the water. When Flint starts to walk away, dejected, Lola reminisces nearly their first boxing together. This rekindles their dear, only Brock doesn't care. He'south not even impressed when Flint and Lola effort to patch things up by making the Pewter Gym a Stone-and-H2o-type Gym. Brock's brother, Forrest, isn't happy either; he throws a fit and runs out of the house. Forrest doesn't want to exist a Gym Leader now that the Pewter Gym isn't a Rock-type Gym, merely Brock assures Forrest that he'll fix it.

The next morning time, Brock insists on battling Lola for the fate of the Gym. Brock chooses Onix, and Lola chooses Mantine. Brock has Onix use Dig to drain all the water from the battleground, but Mantine tin nevertheless swoop through the air and utilize H2o-type attacks. Still, the battle doesn't last long earlier Onix knocks out Mantine, and at present the Gym is back to being a simple, no-frills Rock-type Gym. Equally for the family, they don't seem to mind. They give Brock a hearty send-off as he heads out to Hoenn, and Forrest promises to battle Brock the next time he returns!

Plot

Post-obit his travels through the Johto region with Ash and Misty, Brock returns to his hometown of Pewter City. A mysterious man warns him to turn back, but Brock immediately recognizes his father Flint through the disguise and asks him what he is doing. Flint reminds Brock of the previous celebrity of the Pewter Gym, but so implies that something has happened, specifically his female parent. Flint takes Brock to the Gym, which to his horror now features a hedge and bloom garden. Brock demands to see the inside, but Flintstone admits Lola has them.

Brock arrives home where he is met by all 9 of his siblings. His mother, Lola, puts upward a Smeargle masterpiece on the wall, as she is becoming an art connoisseur. Brock recalls that the fourth dimension he was there before she was studying astrological signs, and the time earlier that she was learning how to juggle yu-yu sticks. Brock comments that she is just being her usual bubbly cocky and that Flint may be overreacting, only Flintstone tells him to look until he sees the within of the Gym. While Lola is impressed with the Gym makeover, including a lake and painted walls, Brock is frustrated. The Pokémon come to meet Brock, and while Brock is impressed with Lola's Pokémon, he tells her that information technology is a Rock-blazon Gym and not an aquarium. Flint admits that he tried to stop Lola, nevertheless he gave up subsequently Lola's Gyarados smashed the Gym's rocks into pieces. Brock orders Flintstone to battle Lola to preserve the Gym's heritage Rock specialization. Lola agrees to information technology, on the status that if she wins all of the other siblings have to become Water specialists. The siblings warn Brock that there is no way that Flint'southward Rock Pokémon can crush Lola's Water-type Pokémon. However, Brock remarks that Pikachu beat Onix despite the type disadvantage.

At kickoff, it looks like it has worked, but then Marill turns things effectually with a Surf assault. This hits Golem, who starts drowning. Lola sends Blastoise to salvage it. As Brock uses a hairdryer to speed up the drying procedure, Forrest is impressed by Brock's knowledge of Pokémon. Lola tells Flintstone that he fought well, and they recall their first boxing. Through this, they revive their honey for each other. Brock is unimpressed, and still volition not let the Gym go a Water Gym.

Equally Brock and his siblings set dinner, Flint and Lola remember the past in the Gym. Flint admits that he thought Lola was getting bored with him, only Lola tells him that he was the one thing that she never got bored of. Over dinner, Brock wants to talk almost the Gym, but Flint and Lola are more interested in each other. They announce that the Gym will handle both types of Pokémon. It is Forrest that objects, telling them that they will plough the Gym into a laughing stock earlier running off. Brock learns that Forrest wants to get the Pewter Gym Leader when he grows up. Subsequently, Brock finds Forrest sitting by a river. Forrest wants him to talk near the girls he has met, just Brock wants to talk about him. Forrest is at present discouraged as the Gym is ruined and he will e'er lose to Water Pokémon. Brock vows that "tomorrow the Rock Pokémon volition have their day."

The following forenoon, Flint shows Brock the new sign for the Gym, which Blastoise and Golem can't even concur up. Brock challenges Lola to a battle, stating that if he wins, she must accept down her decorations, and the Water Pokémon will have to find another lake. Within the Gym, Brock sends out Onix, while Lola calls out Mantine. Onix appears at a disadvantage, perched on a tiny island of rock in the heart of the lake. However, Onix leaps straight upwardly, then dives down into its perch, starting out with Dig. With the rock destroyed, water floods into the new tunnel, which drains all of the water in the lake. Mantine flaps around, unable to move anywhere. Onix comes up underneath information technology which, while causing impairment, allows Mantine to fly. Information technology so launches a Bubble Beam, which Onix counters with Demark. Lola tries to get Mantine to apply Confuse Ray, but it fails. However, another Chimera Beam does work. Onix lets go of Mantine, who goes into a third Bubble Beam, but Onix uses Slam, which makes Mantine faint. The Pewter Gym remains a Rock-only Gym, though Flint convinces the reluctant Brock to compromise and keep the color scheme.

Forrest congratulates Brock on his victory, and Brock assures him that he will be every bit good anytime. On that note, he decides to give Onix, Geodude, and Crobat to Forrest to train with. Forrest promises to work to become a really potent Trainer. Later, Brock is standing outside in his Hoenn clothes, which Lola has made for him. Lola asks Brock if he has everything, and Brock confirms he has and will be taking Forretress with him to Hoenn, as information technology's not long since it evolved and he would like to do some grooming with it. Later on proverb goodbye to his family, Brock heads towards Hoenn to meet upwards with Ash once again.

  • Interestingly, despite the fact that the next episode states that the Pokémon Inspection Agency shuts down any and all Pokémon Gyms that are "unsafe, unclean, and uncool", the Pewter Gym seems to avoid beingness close downwardly fifty-fifty though it failed the "unsafe" requirement, as its water areas are not safe for Rock-type Pokémon.

Errors

  • In the English dub, when Brock tells Flintstone how Ash in one case managed to defeat Onix with his Pikachu, Flint asks how he did that, despite having assisted Ash in powering up his Pikachu to be able to defeat Onix by cheating.

Dub edits

  • Two 22-2nd scenes are removed from the end showing Brock leaving Geodude, Onix, and Crobat with Forrest. The English dub also removed the scene where Lola wonders if Brock will have everything he needs for his journey, and he shows that he's bringing Forretress with him and plans to railroad train with it.
  • The dub also cuts out 18 seconds of Brock's conversation with Forrest at the river, in which Brock says that Pokémon Breeders go to learn about all the different types of Pokémon.
  • The dub portrays Forrest every bit being girl-crazy like Brock, merely the original does not.
  • Lola's hobbies are changed from ballroom dancing, gardening, and astronomical observation in the original to astrological signs, juggling yu yu sticks, and yodeling in the dub.
  • The word 'Closed' on the sign in front of the Pewter Gym is painted abroad in the dub, despite being written in English.
  • In the English dub, "Nibi Gym" is replaced with its English language name "Pewter Gym". This edit too occurs with the painted sign. The letter P on the paint bucket is also removed.
  • In the English dub, Lola and Flint talk about how they starting time met, with Flint's Graveler being defeated by Lola'southward Poliwag, and that they knew they were meant for each other. Brock says that he will battle Lola to brand certain the Pewter Gym doesn't become a Water-type Gym. In the original Japanese version, Flint asks Brock to have care of Golem, implying that he will be leaving the Gym. He says that the Gym will be fine with Lola taking over. Lola asks if he volition become back to selling rocks again and that she doesn't want to make him unhappy. Brock says that they should talk about what do with the Gym, and in the concurrently, he would have care of his siblings.
  • In the English language dub, during dinner, Salvadore tells Forrest that he likes every girl in his class. In the original Japanese version, he talks to Brock instead, asking him if their parents will exist fine after the fight they had.
  • In the original Japanese version, Lola asks Brock how he became a good cook, and he says they were never effectually. In the English dub, he instead asks when they will have their battle.
  • In the original Japanese version, Flint becomes upset with Lola doing all of the errands and hobbies. Lola says she was doing them herself since he was busy with Gym duties, and that she took over the Gym to be with him more than, and he says that he feels the same. In the English dub, Flint believes she was doing the hobbies since she was bored with him.
  • The English dub states that Flintstone and Lola are married, while in the original Japanese version, it is non mentioned at all.
  • In the original Japanese version, afterwards Flintstone and Lola decide that the Gym will become dual-typed, Forrest yells that they take to consider that the Rock-type Pokémon won't be able to battle with the pool in the battlefield. This scene isn't present in the English language dub.
  • The "To Be Continued" explanation is removed in the English dub.
